Storm & Hail Damage Repair
Hail and wind damage assessment, temporary protection to stop further water entry, and full restoration of the roof and everything the storm got to underneath it.
North Texas gets hail. Some years it is a nuisance; some years it takes out a roof, the windows on the north side of the house, and the ceiling in the back bedroom. The work after a storm is rarely just roofing, which is the main reason we do restoration as well.
What hail damage actually looks like
This is the part homeowners get wrong, and it is not their fault. Hail damage on an asphalt shingle roof usually does not look dramatic. It looks like scattered dark spots where the granules have been knocked off and the mat underneath is bruised. From the driveway you see nothing. From four feet away on the roof, you can count the hits.
Better indicators from the ground: dents in soft metal — gutters, downspouts, roof vents, the fins on the air conditioner condenser — and granules washed into the gutter troughs and at the bottom of downspouts. If the soft metal took hits, the shingles did too.
Wind damage is more obvious. Missing shingles, lifted or creased tabs, ridge cap peeled back, fascia or flashing pulled loose.
Why a hit that looks like nothing still matters
Granules are what keep ultraviolet light off the asphalt underneath. Where a hailstone knocked them off, the mat is exposed and ages faster than the rest of the slope, so a bruise that is not leaking this spring can open up two or three seasons later. That is why a roof can be storm-damaged with a completely dry ceiling, and why it is worth knowing what happened while the event is recent rather than finding out during the next long rain.
What the work involves
The first visit is an inspection. We get on the roof, document what we find with photographs, and go over it with you. If the roof is open to weather, the immediate priority is temporary protection — tarping or a dry-in — so the next round of rain does not add interior damage to what you already have.
From there the scope depends on what the storm hit. That may be a full roof replacement on its own. Often it is broader: gutters, siding, window screens or glass, exterior paint, fence sections, and drywall, insulation and paint inside where water came through a ceiling. We handle those trades ourselves rather than handing you off to four different contractors.
Insurance
Storm work and insurance claims usually arrive together, and the claim is where most of the frustration lives. We have worked a lot of them, and we will be on the property with your carrier’s adjuster rather than leaving you to describe a roof you cannot see.
The whole process is laid out on the insurance claim assistance page: what gets photographed before anyone files, what happens on the day the adjuster comes out, and what we do when the scope that comes back is missing something. The short version is that you should not have to argue about your own roof by yourself.
When to call
Call as soon as you have had a significant hail or wind event in your area, whether or not you can see anything wrong. Most policies have deadlines for reporting storm damage, and an inspection that finds nothing costs you nothing but an hour.
Give us a call, or send us the details through the contact form and we will get back to you. If there is active water coming into your home, say that up front.
