A roof rarely fails all at once. It fails at the details — a cracked vent boot, a lifted piece of step flashing, a valley that has worn through, a ridge cap that a wind event peeled back. Catching those early is the difference between a short repair and a full replacement.

What the work involves

The first job is finding where the water is actually entering, which is almost never directly above the stain on your ceiling. Water runs along decking and rafters before it drops. We start on the roof and work the likely paths: penetrations, valleys, wall and chimney flashing, ridge and hip lines, and anywhere the roof plane changes direction.

Once the entry point is confirmed, the repair itself is usually straightforward — replace the boot, re-flash the wall, cut in new shingles and seal the courses back together. If water has been getting in for a while, the repair also means cutting out soft decking and replacing underlayment before anything goes back on top. Skipping that step is why some repairs leak again in six months.

Maintenance is the same work done before there is a stain. We clear debris out of valleys and behind chimneys, reseal exposed fasteners and penetrations, check the ridge and hip caps, and look at the flashing where the roof meets siding or a second story.

What to expect

Most repairs are a few hours. We will show you photos of what we found and what we did, because you cannot see any of it from the ground.

We will also tell you when a repair is not the right call. If a roof has widespread granule loss, brittle shingles, or hail bruising across every slope, patching one section buys very little time, and we would rather say that than take the repair work.

When to call

Call if you see a water stain on a ceiling or in an attic, if you notice daylight through the roof deck from inside the attic, if shingles or ridge caps are visibly missing after a windy night, or if a chimney or skylight has started to weep after rain.

It is also worth having the roof looked at after any significant hailstorm even if nothing is leaking, because hail damage on an asphalt roof frequently looks like nothing at all from the driveway while quietly shortening the roof’s life.
